The area sits between the Quantocks and the Blackdown Hills, so you're not short of scenery. What follows is based on real visits, not policy pages. Coverage is growing, so this isn't the full picture yet.
Taunton Dog Park (Wick Lane, between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard) is a spacious, securely fenced dog field with views over the Quantocks and Blackdown Hills. Open 7am to 9pm every day, it has agility equipment, a wash-down hose, freshwater taps, benches, waste bins and a dedicated car park. Shaded areas and proper fencing mean it works for nervous dogs as well as boisterous ones. BarkFind members rate it 4.8 paws; one said it was "designed for off-lead play and built with thoughtful care."

Bird In Hand in Bishops Lydeard is a village pub with a spacious garden, lead hooks and on-site parking. Dogs are welcome on lead, and the owner's dog is usually around. The policy is unconfirmed in writing, but members report a good reception. Open midday to 11pm daily.

The Chapel Grounds Coffee Shop in Cotford St Luke is a converted chapel serving Italian wood-fired pizzas and British food. Dogs are welcome downstairs only (not upstairs in the restaurant). On-site parking. Closed Monday and Tuesday, open 9am to 11pm Wednesday to Saturday, midday to 8pm Sunday. Google rating 4.9.
Cafe · Graham Way
The Canal Inn in Wrantage is a free house restaurant with outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. Opens afternoons and evenings only: 5pm to 11pm Thursday, midday to 11pm Friday and Saturday, midday to 8pm Sunday. Closed Monday to Wednesday.
Restaurant
The Rising Sun and Taunton Dog Park are the standouts if you want a proper welcome rather than a grudging nod. The Chapel Grounds and The Canal Inn have limited opening hours midweek, so check before you go. Bird In Hand has no confirmed written policy, so it's worth a quick call if your dog needs particular accommodations. Most venues have on-site parking, which helps.
This is still early coverage for Taunton. There will be other good places that aren't listed here yet. If you know somewhere that gets it right, it's worth adding to BarkFind so others can find it too.
