Dog-friendly Bridgwater

23 places · Somerset

Updated 1 October 2026

Bridgwater offers more than you might expect if you know where to look. The town has a few solid pubs and cafes that welcome dogs, but the real find is the secure field provision at Little Clayhill Farm, which stands out for reactive dogs in particular. Parks and green spaces give local dogs room to move, and Kilve Beach sits within reach for a change of scene. This guide covers 12 of 23 places in the area that meet BarkFind's quality bar. Coverage is growing.

Parks and secure fields

Little Clayhill Farm runs two entries in BarkFind because it operates both as a secure field for private hire and as a general facility. The secure field (paw rating 4.7) is open 24 hours and offers water taps, shade and full fencing, so you can book a slot and let your dog run free without interruption. The main site (paw rating 4.8) is open Tuesday to Friday 9am to 5pm and weekends 10am to 1pm, with lighting, benches, parking and the same fenced, off-lead space. One member noted it's "excellent for reactive dogs", and the amenities back that up.

Wembdon Parklands is a well-kept space with off-lead areas, waste bins and shade. The 4.6 paw rating reflects a responsible community of dog owners. The dog policy is unconfirmed, but the site is clearly used and appreciated by locals.

The Meads is an eco park with accessible nature trails and bridges, open all day. Dogs are welcome, but cattle graze in summer, so you must keep your dog under control. The Somerset County Council website (checked October 2023) confirms this seasonal restriction. Trailhead parking is available.

Pubs

The Lamb Inn in Spaxton welcomes dogs and has on-site parking. Nothing flashy, but the 4.5 paw rating suggests it does the basics well.

The Bower Inn on Bower Lane confirms dogs are welcome on its Butcombe website, and opens from 8am daily. No detail on facilities or outdoor space is available yet, but the 4.5 paw rating suggests a solid reception.

The Cottage Inn at Keenthorne actively welcomes dogs in the bar area and snug, according to its own website. A relaxed option for social dogs. Hours are not confirmed.

Cafes and restaurants

The Old Vicarage Hotel & Restaurant on St Mary Street welcomes dogs, provides water bowls and treats, and has street parking nearby. Open evenings from 6pm Monday to Thursday, and from midday Friday to Sunday.

Kitchen at Quantock Lakes allows dogs and expects them to be well-behaved. Open Thursday to Saturday 9am to 3.30pm and Sunday 9.30am to 4pm. The policy is not formally confirmed, but members report a welcoming atmosphere.

The Purplespoon Cafe on Friarn Avenue keeps dogs outside but provides water and a friendly reception on warmer days. Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 3pm.

M&S Foodhall at Gallagher Retail Park has no established information about its dog policy or facilities. The limited fit rating reflects that uncertainty.

Beach

Kilve Beach is a pebbly stretch with decent parking and a scenic walk. Facilities on site are limited, and the dog policy is unconfirmed, but it's a straightforward option if you want salt air and stones underfoot.

What to know

Little Clayhill Farm's secure field requires booking, so check availability before you set off. At The Meads, watch for grazing cattle in the summer months and keep your dog on a lead if they're present. Parking at most venues is either on-site or on-street; only a handful have dedicated car parks.

One caveat

This list is not complete. BarkFind has 23 places recorded in Bridgwater, and 12 meet the quality bar for inclusion here. Several venues have unconfirmed dog policies, which means the welcome may be there but the detail is still being gathered. If you find a place that deserves to be on the map, log it in the app.
