Dog-friendly Weston-super-Mare

Bristol and North Somerset

Updated 1 October 2026

Weston-super-Mare offers more than its famous seafront: quiet woodland walks, sandy beaches without seasonal restrictions, and a handful of cafes and pubs that understand the difference between tolerating a dog and making one genuinely welcome. If you need space for off-lead running or secure fenced parks for dogs with poor recall, the town has both. If your dog is reactive or needs calm, there are woodland trails away from the crowds and pubs with quiet tables at the back.

This list is not complete. Coverage is growing.

Woods and parks

Weston Woods is the standout: 4.8 on Google, 4.9 from BarkFind members, with multiple well-maintained paths, off-lead freedom, waste bins and shade. One member said the woods were quiet, with plenty of paths to keep away from busy areas. It can get muddy and the car park gets busy, but there is space to spread out once you are in.

Ellenborough Park East is fully fenced, so secure for dogs with poor recall. Benches, bins and shade are all present, though the park depends on visitors closing gates properly. BarkFind members rated it lower (3.4) than its Google score suggests.

Bluebell Woods in Uphill offers enclosed woodland with shaded trails and off-lead space, popular with dog walkers. Facilities are minimal and parking is roadside only, but BarkFind members rated it 4.6.

Corpus Christi Field has waste bins and is confirmed dog-welcome by Weston-super-Mare Town Council, though detail on the space itself is limited.

Beach

Uphill Beach is sandy, spacious and allows off-lead running year-round. It is quieter than the main strands and, according to North Somerset Council (checked August 2026), dogs are allowed at any time on the stretch between Royal Sands and Uphill, with no seasonal restriction and no lead requirement. One BarkFind member noted it is far less rubbish-strewn because it is more of a locals' area, with plenty of space.

Be aware: horse riding is permitted on Weston-super-Mare beach except from 1 July to 31 August between 10am and 6pm. Horses may be present at any time outside those dates and hours. Donkey ride concessions also operate on the beach, checked by North Somerset Council in August 2026. Watch for both if your dog is unsettled by livestock.

Dogs are not allowed at Weston Marine Lake at any time, except guide or assistance dogs (North Somerset Council, checked August 2026).

Cafes and places to eat

Stones Cafe on Knightstone Causeway actively welcomes dogs inside with treats and water, year-round. One member said it is very dog-friendly and recommended it, though parking can be tricky as it is on-street. Open 9am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm weekends.

The Boathouse Uphill has a dedicated dog menu, water bowls and treats, and members say dogs are always really welcomed. There is even an onsite shop stocking dog treats and accessories. Inside gets busy and cramped, so outdoor seating is your best bet. Open 9am to 5pm daily.

The Old Inn in Hutton has quieter tables at the back for dogs needing calm space, though dedicated dog zones can get noisy and you may be seated in the way of foot fall. One member said the food is great. Dog policy is unconfirmed, but BarkFind members rated it 4.4. Open 11.30am to 11pm daily.

Pubs and bars

Ebdon Arms confirms dogs are welcome on its website, with designated dog-friendly seating areas indoors and out, plus treats and water bowls. Dogs cannot access all parts of the building. Open from midday daily.

The Ship Inn in Uphill has a tight interior with a log burner and a large beer garden with space for dogs. Staff hand out treats readily. One member said it is fine for a confident or relaxed dog. Dog policy is unconfirmed. Open from midday daily.

Fat Head Brewery & Bottle Shop on the High Street has staff known to be welcoming to dogs, though detail is limited. Open 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, closed weekends.

Fork 'n' Ale Taproom & Kitchen welcomes dogs, but specifics are unconfirmed. Open 11am to 10pm Tuesday to Thursday, 11am to 11pm Friday and Saturday, midday to 6pm Sunday. Closed Monday.

Before you go

This list represents 12 of 39 venues in Weston-super-Mare that pass the quality bar on BarkFind. Coverage is growing. If your dog is nervous or reactive, the woodland walks at Weston Woods and Bluebell Woods offer the most opportunity to avoid busy areas. If you need a secure space, Ellenborough Park East is fenced but depends on other people closing gates behind them. Beach access is generous here, but keep an eye out for horses and donkeys, particularly outside the summer peak.
