Dog-friendly Bury area guide

Most of what we've found so far sits around Ramsbottom and Edenfield rather than Bury town centre itself, so this is really a guide to that pocket of the borough: two proper parks, a clutch of pubs, one bar with its own dog menu, and a cafe. If you've got a dog who likes a riverside walk followed by a sit-down in a beer garden, it's a decent patch.

Parks

Burrs Country Park (Woodhill Rd, Bury BL8 1DA) is 36 hectares of riverside grounds along the River Irwell, open 24 hours every day. Dogs are welcome here (council source confirms this). It suits active dogs who want proper distance, and there are water bowls at the on-site cafe. Amenities include bag dispensers and waste bins.

Nuttall Park (Nuttall Hall Rd, Ramsbottom, Bury BL0 9LZ) is also open 24 hours and has woodland, a fenced dog area and a flat 1km path circling the whole grounds, good for off-lead running. The dog policy here isn't confirmed, so check on arrival, but the fenced area and space make it a strong option for a dog who needs to properly stretch out. One BarkFind member called it "plenty of space for dogs to run off lead" with a path "you can walk or run around the whole park". Paw rating 4.8.

Pubs

Ramsbottom does well for pub gardens. The Duckworth Arms (416 Whalley Rd) welcomes dogs and even offers them treats on arrival; it's open all day, with a beer garden with views. Eagle & Child (3 Whalley Rd, Shuttleworth) also welcomes dogs, with beds or mats provided so your dog can settle while you eat. Hare & Hounds (400 Bolton Rd W, Holcombe Brook) welcomes dogs too, has alfresco seating and on-site parking, and is popular with walkers coming off the hills, open from 11am or 11.30am on weekdays through to late.

For something with more character, Holcombe Tap (13 Bolton Rd W, Ramsbottom) is a bar rather than a traditional pub, open from midday daily (until midnight Friday to Sunday). It has a dedicated dog menu, outdoor dog space and staff described as attentive. Paw rating 4.5, the highest in this guide.

Cafes

The Drop Off Cafe (42 Market St, Edenfield) is a community spot with outdoor patio seating that welcomes dogs. It's a shorter visit than the pubs, open 9am to 3pm or 4pm most days, 9am to 6pm on Fridays. Paw rating 3.5.

What to know before you go

  • Burrs Country Park's dog-welcome status is confirmed by Bury Council (source: bury.gov.uk, checked 28 October 2026). No other council restrictions have been approved for this area yet, so none are listed here.
  • Nuttall Park and the Drop Off Cafe don't have a confirmed dog policy on file; we've marked that rather than guessing, so it's worth checking signage or asking when you arrive.
  • Most venues here cluster around Ramsbottom and Edenfield rather than Bury centre, so this isn't a town-wide picture.

One honest caveat

This list is seven venues deep and growing, not a full map of dog-friendly Bury. There's nothing here yet from the town centre itself, and several entries are missing confirmed dog policies, so treat this as a solid starting point for a Ramsbottom day out rather than the last word on the borough.
