Photo: Mr Eugene Birchall, CC BY-SA 2.0Seaton sits on this stretch of the Jurassic Coast with Beer and Branscombe close enough to count as part of the same outing. It's a beach town first, so most of what's here is shaped around sand, tides and the odd seasonal lead rule. Nothing flashy, but there's a decent spread of beaches, a couple of proper pubs and one cafe worth knowing about.
Beer Beach is the pick for off-season walkers: outside summer, dogs can roam freely here. From 1 May to 30 September, East Devon Council requires dogs to be kept on a lead on the stretch from the Sea Hill access path eastwards to the cliffs, and bans dogs altogether on the stretch westwards to the cliffs in the same period, except for dogs on leads using a specific route to the beach cafe (Authority: East Devon Council, checked 10 October 2026). So in summer you've still got the eastern lead-walking stretch and that cafe access route; it's really only the western section that's off-limits.

Branscombe Beach is simply noted as dog-welcome, though there's nothing on record about facilities for dogs there, so don't expect much beyond sand and sea. BarkFind members rate it 3.5 on paw ratings.

Seaton Beach is more restricted and worth knowing before you go. Dogs must be kept on a lead on the esplanade from The Chine, including West Walk, to Trevelyan Road, all year round. Separately, dogs are banned entirely from the beach between Castle Hill and Trevelyan Road from 1 May to 30 September each year (both Authority: East Devon Council, checked 10 October 2026). Outside those months and that stretch, dogs are tolerated on leads along the esplanade, and there's a dedicated car park nearby. BarkFind rates this one 2.5, a beach for lead walks and the view rather than a free run.
The Fountain Head Inn, Branscombe, is the sociable option: a relaxed, traditional pub where dogs are clearly welcome to dine inside at tables alongside their owners. Closed Mondays; otherwise open evenings from 6pm, plus lunchtimes Wednesday to Sunday (12pm to 3pm) and Sunday afternoons to 5pm. BarkFind paw rating of 4.

Masons Arms, Branscombe confirms dogs are welcome (source: the pub's own dog-friendly days out page). It's a 14th-century thatched inn with long opening hours, 7.30am to 11pm most days and until 10.30pm on Sundays, and scenic coastal walks on the doorstep. No specific amenities for dogs are listed beyond the welcome itself.

The Sea Shanty Beach Cafe & Shop, on the beach at Branscombe, confirms dogs are welcome (source: the cafe's own website). Open daily, 9am to 3.30pm, for light lunches and cakes with sea views. No further dog-specific details are given.

The main thing to plan around is the seasonal lead and access rules at Seaton Beach and Beer Beach, both set by East Devon Council and both tightest between May and September. Outside that window, both beaches open up considerably. Seaton Beach has a dedicated car park, which the others don't mention. None of the venues here list water bowls, shaded areas or other dog amenities, so it's worth bringing what you need.
This is six venues, not the whole of Seaton. The list is growing, so there will be dog-friendly spots here BarkFind hasn't reached yet, and it's worth checking current signage at the beaches since council rules can be updated.
