Okehampton

Note: this list is not complete. We've checked 10 places so far around Okehampton and the surrounding villages, and coverage keeps growing.

Dog-friendly Okehampton

Okehampton doesn't have a big cluster of dog-friendly cafes or a famous beach on the doorstep: what it has, by the data we've gathered so far, is pubs. Lots of them, scattered through the town and the villages around it, from Sticklepath to Hatherleigh to Belstone up on Dartmoor. If you and your dog like a proper pub crawl rather than a parade of coffee shops, this is useful territory. No parks, beaches or standalone cafes have passed our quality bar here yet, so this guide is pub-led by necessity rather than choice.

Pubs

The Bull And Dragon, Meeth. A 15th century countryside pub where dogs get water bowls and treats as standard, not an afterthought. Mylo's verdict: a warm welcome that makes dogs feel actively cared for. Open Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday (closed Thursday). Paw rating 4.5. Street parking.

Taw River Inn, Sticklepath. Dogs are welcome [source: tawriver.co.uk], and there's on-site parking, which matters if you're coming from out of town. Good for a straightforward pub visit by car. Open seven days, late most nights.

Tally Ho!, Hatherleigh. Staff made a visiting labrador comfortable without fuss, and the atmosphere is sociable. Dog policy here is unconfirmed rather than stated outright, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a visit. Paw rating 4. Open daily, with later hours Friday and Saturday.

The Pump & Pedal, Prewley Hub. Part bike shop, part bar and cafe, with dogs welcomed inside [source: pumpandpedal.co.uk] and an indoor dog zone. Paw rating 4. Daytime hours only, 10am to 5pm every day, so it's more of a stop than an evening out.

The New Inn, Sampford Courtenay. Cosy, and properly geared up for dogs: staff offer puppuccinos and doggy ice cream alongside the welcome inside [source: newinnsampfordcourtenay.co.uk]. Paw rating 4.5. Closed Mondays; street parking.

The Tors Inn, Belstone. On Dartmoor's northern edge with walks on the doorstep, and dogs are welcome [source: thetorsinn.co.uk] with on-site parking. Shorter hours on Sunday.

The London Inn, Okehampton town centre. Water bowls out and a friendly welcome from staff, though the dog policy itself is unconfirmed. Paw rating 4. Open late most nights.

The Kings Arms, St James St, Okehampton. A local with an indoor dog zone where dogs are allowed inside and staff are described as genuinely friendly. Policy is unconfirmed here too. Paw rating 4.

The Kings Arms, South Zeal. A separate pub of the same name. Dogs are welcome [source: thekingsarmssouthzeal.com]. Closed Tuesdays.

George Inn, Hatherleigh. Dogs welcomed inside alongside families and locals, indoor dog zone provided. Policy unconfirmed from our source. Paw rating 4.

What to know before you go

Several of these pubs have an unconfirmed dog policy on our records, meaning the welcome has been reported by visitors but not confirmed in the venue's own words. Worth a quick check when you book or arrive. Where a policy is confirmed, we've quoted the venue's own wording and linked the source. Opening hours vary a lot between these pubs, several close early or shut entirely one day a week, so it's worth checking before setting off, especially for The Bull And Dragon (closed Thursday), Taw River Inn's Kings Arms South Zeal (closed Tuesday), and The New Inn (closed Monday).

The honest caveat

This is a pub-heavy guide because that's what we've verified so far in and around Okehampton. We haven't yet got approved data on any dog-friendly cafes, parks, beaches or places to eat beyond pubs here, and no council restrictions have been confirmed for the area at the time of writing. If you know somewhere that should be on this list, that's exactly how the coverage grows.
